2 Euro Commemorative Coin Estonia 2018 100th Anniversary of the Estonian Republic Estonia’s 2018 commemorative coin marks a century of republican statehood. The country proclaimed its independence on 24 February 1918, and the centenary programme placed that turning point in the context of the Estonian Salvation Committee and the “Manifesto to the Peoples of Estonia”. Its national design is built around the official anniversary emblem. The figures “18” and “100” are interlocked so that the founding year and the hundred-year perspective become a single visual statement. Rather than presenting history as a detached date, the emblem suggests continuity between the birth of the republic and its living national identity. The inscription “SADA AASTAT EESTI VABARIIKI”, meaning “100 years of the Republic of Estonia”, spells out the commemorative message in Estonian. “EESTI” and “2018” complete the composition, while Identity, a concept and design agency, created the design. The coin was struck at the Lithuanian Mint.
