2 Euro Commemorative Coin Estonia 2025 500th Anniversary of the first publication containing words in Estonian and the start of the Estonian literary language Estonia’s 2025 commemorative coin celebrates the beginnings of a written literary culture in the Estonian language. Its historical reference is 1525, when the first publication containing Estonian words was printed. Although that work has not survived, its documented appearance marks an important starting point for the development of Estonian books and written language. The coin therefore connects a specific milestone in printing history with the wider role of the written word in education, communication, social cohesion, and the formation of a shared national consciousness. Svetlin Balezdrov expresses this idea through four stylised books arranged to form a capital E. The letter suggests both Eesti, the Estonian name of the country, and the identity carried by its language. Around the design appear “Eesti raamat 500” and the years 1525 and 2025. Issued on 30 January 2025, the coin circulates as legal tender throughout the euro area.
