2 Euro Commemorative Coin Finland 2009 200th Anniversary of Finnish Autonomy and Porvoo Diet The coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of Finnish autonomy and the Porvoo Diet of 1809. After the Finnish War, Finland was incorporated into the Russian Empire and organised as an autonomous Grand Duchy; Tsar Alexander I in Porvoo secured the continued application of local laws and the Lutheran religion. The first Finnish diet convened in Porvoo in 1809 and opened its proceedings in the cathedral, so the coin’s motif depicts a stylised profile of Porvoo Cathedral with the ornamental date '1809' above. To the left are the country code 'FI' and the mintmark, to the right the year '2009'; the outer ring is formed by twelve EU stars. The designer is Reijo Paavilainen. Issued in October 2009 (no exact day). Mintage: 1.6 million pieces.
