2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovenia 2018 World Day of the Bees €2 Commemorative Coin Slovenia 2018 World Bee Day This coin commemorates the first World Bee Day, observed on 20 May 2018 after a Slovenian initiative had helped place bee protection on the international agenda. The date also marks the birth of Anton Janša (1734–1773), the Slovenian beekeeper widely associated with the beginnings of modern beekeeping. Following several years of advocacy and international coordination, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted the relevant resolution on 20 December 2017. The observance highlights bees and other pollinators as essential to biodiversity, sustainable agriculture and food security, while calling attention to the threats they face. Slovenia issued the commemorative coin in 2018.
