2 Euro Commemorative Coin Spain 2014 UNESCO World Heritage Sites Issued in 2014 as Spain’s fifth release in its annual series honoring national UNESCO World Heritage sites, this 2‑euro commemorative coin celebrates Park Güell in Barcelona. The public park was created by Antoni Gaudí at the start of the 20th century and is part of the UNESCO listing “Works of Antoni Gaudí,” which recognizes his outstanding contribution to late 19th‑ and early 20th‑century architecture and building techniques and the way he linked architecture, garden design, sculpture and decorative arts. The coin’s design presents a stylized rendition of the famous lizard or salamander in the foreground with an entrance pavilion behind it; the rim inscription reads “ESPAÑA” and “PARK GÜELL – GAUDÍ,” together with the year and mintmark. The issue date was 1 March 2014.
