2 Euro Commemorative Coin Spain 2022 UNESCO World Heritage Sites The Spanish 2-euro commemorative coin of 2022 pays tribute to Garajonay National Park on the Canary Island of La Gomera and continues Spain’s series honoring sites on the UNESCO World Heritage list, serving as the thirteenth issue. The coin recognizes the natural area inscribed in 1986. Its design depicts the striking Roque de Agando beside a fragment of the island’s laurel forest, the Laurisilva. The park lies in the center of La Gomera; UNESCO describes the Laurisilva as a relict of the Tertiary rain and warm-temperate forests of Europe and North Africa. About seventy percent of the park is cloaked in laurel forest, fed by springs and numerous streams, and shelters many endemic, sometimes threatened, species. The outer ring bears the twelve EU stars.
