2 Euro Commemorative Coin Malta 2023 550th Anniversary of the birth of Nicholas Copernicus 550th Anniversary of the Birth of Nicolaus Copernicus – 2023. Malta dedicated this €2 commemorative coin to the 550th anniversary of the birth of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus (1473–1543). His heliocentric model placed the Sun at the centre of the planetary system and described Earth as orbiting it alongside the other planets. These ideas became foundational to modern astronomy and helped propel the Scientific Revolution. The coin’s principal design combines a portrait of Copernicus with a stylised representation of the heliocentric universe. Inscriptions give his name and dates, Malta, and the year of issue, while the signature “FUSCO” identifies the designer, Daniela Fusco.
