By representing letters, numbers and symbols through raised dot patterns, his idea opened new opportunities for education, work and independent communication for people with visual impairments. Belgium’s commemorative coin marks his bicentenary and honours a script still used around the world. It also shows how educational and technical innovation can create broader social participation.
